2019년도 집에서 문득 나 자신을 돌아봤다. 그때의 나는 웃음이 없었다. 그래서 웃고살자를 모티브로 이 그림을 구상했었는데, 한동안 잊고 있다가 지금 코로나 때문에 사람들이 웃음일이 많이 없어진거 같아 이 그림을 캔버스에 그렸다. ‘ㅋ’ 요즘은 사람들이 어떠한 형태와 방식으로 웃을까 많이 고민하고 또 찾아봤다. 나와 같은 Z세대 그리고 밀레니얼 세대, x세대 그 윗세대까지 요즘은 모두 스마트폰을 들고 다니며 사용한다. 기술이 발달함으로써 웃는 형태도 많이 달라졌다고 생각한다. 글자를 적던시대 에서 지금은 타이핑, 앞으로 미래에는음성의 시대가 올거라고 본다.
요즘은 모두 sns를 이용한다. 어린아이부터 할아버지까지 일상속 우리모두는타이핑을 하며 감정이나 생각, 일상 등을 주고 받는다.그러면 요즘 우리 모두는 어떻게 웃는가? 요즘은 알파벳 또는 발음기호로 웃는다. 물론 일상에서 ㅋㅋㅋ이렇게웃는사람이 아주 없지는 않지만 밖을 둘러보면 모두 손에서 스마트폰을 놓지않는다. sns상에서 쓰는 표현이지만 요즘 기술의 발달로 sns로 더 많이 소통하지 않는가? 그런 의미에서 이번 작품에는 내가 그린 그림중에서 ‘ㅋ’이 제일 많이 사용됐다. 맨위에 한자는 ‘훈민정음’을 한자로 적은것이다.
결국에 어느 단어로 소통을 하던지 결국에 뿌리는 한글, 그 위에는 훈민정음이라고 생각해서 훈민정음을 그림 맨 위쪽에 새겨넣었다. ‘ㅋ’의 모양이 3가지로 나눠 그렸다. 일종의 캘리그래피. 가운데 ‘ㅈㅎ’은 내 이름과 나의 어머니 이름 이니셜이다. 그림의 주제 자체가 한글이여서 그림에 나의 시그니처도 한글로 새겨넣었다. 나는 사람들이 이 그림을 보면서 내가 말한 말이맞다 틀리다 논하는게 아니라 과거를 다시 돌아보고 지금과 비교해서 어떻게 변했는지 앞으로는 어떻게 변할것인지에 대해 생각하게 하고싶다.

Hun-Min-Jeong-Eum. -Korean letters created by King Sejong in 1443 with the help of scholars before the house. 17 consonants and 11 vowels are all 28 characters. ㅋ(One of the Korean consonants) At home in 2019, I suddenly looked back at myself. At that time I haven’t laughed for a while. So, I conceived this painting with the motif of a person who lives with a smile, but after forgetting for a while, I think that people have lost a lot of laughter because of the corona, so I drew this painting on the canvas. ‘ㅋ’ Nowadays, I have been thinking and searching a lot about how people laugh. Gen Z, millennials, gen x and even higher generations these days all carry and use smartphones. I think that the way you smile has changed a lot as your technology has developed. From the era of writing letters, I think the era of typing now and voice in the future will come. Nowadays everyone uses sns. From small children to grandparents, we all type and exchange emotions, thoughts, and everyday life. So how do we all laugh these days?
These days, they laugh with the alphabet or phonetic symbols. Of course, in everyday life hahaha, there aren’t very many people smiling like this, but when you look outside, everyone doesn’t let go of their smartphones. It’s an expression used in sns, but with the development of technology these days, don’t you communicate more with sns? In that sense, ‘ㅋ’ is the most used in this work. At the top, the Chinese character is’Hunminjeongeum’ written in Chinese characters.
In the end, no matter which word you communicate with, I thought that it was Hangeul that eventually sprinkled, and Hunminjeongeum was engraved on the top of the picture because I thought it was Hunminjeongeum. The shape of’ㅋ’ was divided into three parts. A kind of calligraphy. The middle ‘ㅈㅎ’ is my name and my mother’s initials. The subject of the painting itself is Hangul, so I engraved my signature on the painting in Hangul. I want people to look at this picture and not argue that what I saidis right or wrong, but to look back on the past and think about how it has changed compared to the present and how it will change in the future.
