Why is Big Data becoming more important to countries and companies?

People have their own data, such as personal data, email, or social network IDs and passwords. In addition, they are creating new data every day without realizing it. Companies and countries have information about consumers, who also happen to be citizens. Aside from that, they are responsible for updating and managing it. When companies want to arrange new business, they should examine data about clients first. Therefore, large organizations always constitute and save many kinds of data for use.

What is Big Data?

Big data includes all kinds of data, such as texts, videos, and images on the internet. It consists of structured and unstructured data aggregation. It typically has three characteristics: volume, velocity, and variety. We call them the 3 V’s of big data.

Volume refers to the size of big data. Big data can process huge sizes in petabytes and zettabytes. For example, people know about megabytes, gigabytes, and terabytes through phone data storage, Google Drive, or USB (Universal Serial Bus) sticks.  According to the Berkeley School of Information, one gigabyte can save 7 minutes of HD video; however, one zettabyte can provide 250 billion DVDs in storage.

Velocity pertains to the high-quality and real-time processing speed of big data and the data available. Social media platforms, like YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram, manage and generate videos and texts from users. People upload more than 500 million texts per day in the world. The companies have systems for big data, so they can work quickly and accurately without errors.

Variety in big data deals with all of the structured and unstructured data for the development of machines. The structured data are texts, tweets, pictures, and videos. On the other hand, unstructured data are emails, voicemails, and audio recordings.

How to use Big Data?

Companies and governments should manufacture to use big data; therefore, they apply data technologies, like Spark, Hadoop, NoSQL databases, and cloud computing services. These tools help connect vast amounts of data to engineers quickly and easily. Moreover, those things offer a high quality of data security. Big data is being used in all types of business because of its characteristics.

Healthcare

Hospitals and pharmaceutical companies can also use big data to administer data on diseases, medicines, and patients. As time goes on, new diseases and drugs are constantly created. Companies and organizations will be able to appropriately remedy cancer and incurable disease by using big data. In the future, people will be able to get their own prescriptions without going to the hospital, using professional programs.

Agriculture

In recent years, smart farming and automated farming have helped farmers grow crops effectively. Smart farming composed of big data provides information about weather, soil moisture, and the condition of crops for farmers. They can control their farm by using computers and smartphones everywhere. In addition, the crops are tastier and fresher than before. Furthermore, big data in agriculture helps to protect foods and prevent food shortages.

Entertainment

When people use streaming services and internet shopping, websites and apps provide recommendations for users. These systems are arranged for consumers after research with big data. For example, some platforms combine data to offer technologies that recommend clothes or shoes that fit a consumer’s size. Moreover, streaming services, such as YouTube and Netflix, use different data according to the user’s preferences and provides it to the settings accordingly.

Conclusion

There are many different kinds of data in the world, and it is the most fundamentally important in all parts of business; therefore, big data has a lot of potential for the future. Companies and organizations should think and focus on how to use and manage their data. The big data will be gathered to provide positive results in business and solve social problems. In addition, it will make our lives more comfortable and creative.
