Remembrance Day!

Remembrance Day is a Memorial Day celebrated in Commonwealth member states to memorialize military personnel who died while performing their duties during World War I and later conflicts. It is also known as Armistice Day or Poppy Day. Different countries have their own unique ways of commemorating Remembrance Day, which reflects their historical and cultural heritage.

The tradition of Remembrance Day originated on Armistice Day. On November 10, 1919, King George V hosted a Banquet in Honour of the President of the French Republic at Buckingham Palace to mark the inaugural Armistice Day. The inaugural Armistice Day was celebrated on the grounds of Buckingham Palace the next morning. Several countries changed the name of the holiday during World War II. While Commonwealth nations commemorated Remembrance Day, the United States chose Veterans Day.

November 11 is Remembrance Day in Canada, as it is in the United Kingdom, Commonwealth nations, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.

The yearly tradition being observed in Canada on this day is the National Ceremony, which is held at the National War Memorial in Ottawa and is attended by the Governor General, Prime Minister, veterans, and the public. Red and white poppies: many Canadians wear white poppies, symbolizing peace. Both types of poppies are worn in remembrance. Bells of Peace: This initiative involves ringing bells 100 times at sunset on November 11th to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.

Remembrance Day ceremonies are deeply emotional events that serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by men and women in the armed forces to defend their countries and preserve the ideals of freedom and peace.
