The arrival of March marks the beginning of summer in the Philippines.
Being born and raised in the Philippines, we know we only have two seasons: wet and dry.
However, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA), “There is no ‘summer’ in the Philippines.” Technically speaking, we are to experience a “hot, dry season.”
While the northeast monsoon may end in the coming week, According to PAGASA weather forecaster Benison Estareja, the warm-dry season will likely start in the third week or at the end of March. “So it’s the warm-dry season. We emphasize that there is no summer season in the country,” he said.
We are working for a dry-season body, not a summer body, since the Philippines, by its location on the planet, has only two seasons. So, it’s more appropriate to say “dry season” instead of “summer.”
Tropical countries like the Philippines, located near the equator, or the invisible line that divides the planet between north and south, receive more sunlight, resulting in smaller shifts in temperature.
The weather bureau said warm weather means temperatures around 25 Celsius, while hot or dry weather is when temperatures are around 35 Celsius.
PAGASA said it uses temperature and rainfall as bases for determining the climate: a rainy season from June to November and a dry season from December to May. The dry season is further subdivided into two: the cool, dry season from December to February, and the hot, dry season from March to May.
