Hana Reading Culture Center

Recently, Concordia and Trinity Academy collaborated once again on a trip to Ansan here in South Korea. CEO Peter Lee from Concordia International University and Pastor Yoon-jae Jang from Trinity Academy travelled to Ansan, South Korea. Through our existing partnership with Trinity, we met with the director of the Hana Reading Culture Center, Guisun Heo.

Since we at Concordia specialize in higher education, we thought the Hana Reading Culture Center could potentially aid in the process of going from K-12 to higher education. The idea is to create a stronger pathway all the way from kindergarten to a college degree. Recently, we discussed with the Hana Reading Culture Center to further extend this existing pathway down to the younger side of our education chain.

Currently, Concordia offers a degree pathway for college/university level education, however, we lack programs in the lower education levels such as elementary, middle, and high school. Collaborating with an organization like the Hana Reading Culture Center would greatly benefit each of our students. It would work especially well with our Trinity Academy collaboration because of the Christian focus between the two schools. A partnership or collaboration between these three schools could be the start of something great, but in the meantime, it remains a topic of discussion.

About Hana Reading Culture Center:

The Hana Reading Culture Center’s goal is to provide proper Christian education through scripture, social interaction, leadership development, creativity, and counseling. Students will conduct doctrinal studies based on systematic theology, read spiritual classics, and participate in group prayer/worship. Part of the students’ social interaction is learning how, not only we has humans perceive others, but also how God perceives us. Leadership development is through finding a student’s talents and strengths. The students will study regular government-issued education subjects such as Korean, English, Mathematics, Science, etc. Along with studying, playing and exploring creativity is equally important. Allowing the students to have creative freedom promotes growth and allows for a better understanding of potential strengths. The general goal is to find out what the students excel and provide counseling to help the students reflect on potential careers they may be interested in.
