The Endangered Tiger and Their Importance to Us

Why saving tigers are important

Tigers support livelihood

The biggest industry in the world is tourism. In the field of ecotourism, tigers are the most popular attraction for most tourists. Some foreigners come to India to see tigers, and some tourists are repeat visitors.

It plays an important role in attracting many tourists. Therefore, it affects many people, from tourist companies to tour guides. Thus, a healthy tiger population helps with people’s livelihood.

Tigers protect genetic diversity

Tigers are an umbrella breed. It automatically guarantees the preservation of the majority of flora and fauna and the whole ecosystem. Therefore, a suitable planned tiger preservation program is actually a program to safeguard a variety of breeds.

However, news of a decrease in the tiger population suggests an instant danger to other creatures remaining in the natural ecosystem. In other words, a healthy tiger population safeguards everything that exists in the natural ecosystem (Singh, 2009).

Why are tigers endangered?

Tigers are regarded as “endangered” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The IUCN is generally a gold standard for the conditions of animals around the world and their conservation status. Hunting and poaching have threatened tigers in the past. In many parts of the west, tiger trophies represented status, and hunting expeditions were not rare. In addition, tiger skins are gorgeous and are sometimes made of high-quality rugs that represent status and affluence.

Previously, the biggest threat to tigers was hunting, but now, the largest reason that they are becoming endangered is that their habitat is decreasing. People cross wild boundaries, which leads to people encountering tigers. Moreover, as the tigers’ habitats and hunting areas shrink, they are bound to hunt the livestock of humans. It was humans who first invaded the tiger’s habitat, but this adds tension and sometimes leads to the tiger’s death (Maxwell, 2022)

How can humans protect tigers?

In fact, the top predator of the food chain that sustains ecosystems in tropical jungles in Asia is the tiger. Human greed has caused the endangerment of various kinds of wildlife and tigers. Much more human behavior and activities, including cutting down trees, polluting the air, and increasing poaching cases, exert a negative effect on tiger species. And here are some uncomplicated ways to protect tigers:

Creating Awareness: Tigers are endangered, and excessive recognition programs can protect them. Everyone can do their part to prevent tiger extinction. Making posters or flyers about the importance of tigers on Earth is something that people should do. Through these small efforts, the importance of tigers can be recognized, which brings about great changes.

Poaching: The law prohibits tiger hunting all over the world because the biggest reason for tiger extinction is the buying and selling of tiger skin or other tiger body parts. If you know someone involved in tiger hunting, you should report him.

Cause Support: People may have experience with running various programs to protect tigers. You should participate in and support their cause as much as you can to clearly instill awareness in people. In addition, people can write blogs about tiger conservation campaigns. These things will help a lot to change people’s perceptions.

Don’t use tiger skin products: Stop buying products made of or from tiger skin. Also, do not use medicine made using parts of the tiger’s body. On an average, humans kill one wild tiger every day to satisfy their needs.

Forest protection: Protecting forests is an essential step in the process of preserving tigers. In order to protect tigers, their natural habitats should be protected. Planting as many trees as possible will also help to preserve tigers (Sharma, 2012)

Conclusion

Tigers have a direct impact on humans as well as the natural ecosystem. Therefore, people should make efforts to protect them because we can have a great impact on minor changes in other people’s perceptions and behavior. There were approximately eight species of tigers on the Earth, but three of them were already extinct. People should try to save the five remaining species.
