Cloud Nine College (CNC) hosted a summer picnic on June 24th at Sunset Beach, Stanley Park. Stanley Park is well known as a magnificent green oasis in downtown Vancouver. The park welcomes millions of people from all over the world every year to enjoy the forest, historical landmarks, beautiful beaches, and its attractions. This event was organized for students to enjoy the beginning of summer while celebrating the end of spring. The event was participated by students and administrative staff, who had an opportunity to get to know each other better. By eating and playing games together, students had the best time socializing with their fellow CNC students in an outdoor setting.
Participants enjoyed the great weather by playing beach volleyball, frisbees, dodge ball, and “drop the handkerchief.” The “drop the handkerchief” game is similar to the “Duck, duck, goose” game in Western countries, where a group of players sits in a circle. However, as one player walks around the circle, instead of saying a “duck” or a “goose” while tapping each player’s head, the player drops the handkerchief behind someone in the circle. The person with whom the handkerchief was dropped must chase the other player before the other player gets to the space in the circle left by the person chasing.
Indeed, students enjoyed the weather by the beach and the group activities while taking a break from their studies. Undoubtedly, summer is vibrant and is the best season with its outdoor festivals and entertainment in Vancouver. This season is the best to enjoy the outdoors before the fall hits in September. While Canada is slowly transitioning to the new normal post-COVID 19, CNC is continuously improving its academic activities by keeping an exemplary balance of on and off-campus activities that foster valuable learning experiences for its community.
