There are three types of public transportation in Vancouver; buses, Skytrains (trains), and Seabus (ferries). While train service is limited to only three lines, buses cover most of the downtown area and other areas that aren’t accessible by trains. To use public transportations, all you need is to purchase a reloadable farecard called Compass card.
The metro Vancouver operates a transit network that runs south-east from downtown Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and Surrey. While tickets for each trip can be purchased from a ticket machine at a train station, the fares will be discounted by using a Compass Card. The compass cards, monthly passes, and day passes can be purchased from ticket vending machines at train stations, drug stores, online, or by phone.
Vancouver’s transit system is divided into three zones, with fares increasing depending on the number of zones that a traveller crosses. However, all three zones can be accessed with the fare of one zone after 6:30 p.m. on weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Additionally, buses are charged at the one-zone fare, regardless of the traveller’s destination. Furthermore, as long as the person stays in the same zone, tickets/compass cards will allow them to transfer as many times as they like within 90 minutes.
Commuter passes offer unlimited travel for a month, but they cannot be used right after they are purchased. For instance, if you wish to load a monthly pass for the current month, you must purchase it between the 1st and 19th of the month. In addition, if monthly passes are for the following month, you must purchase them between the 20th of that month and the 15th of the following month. Making public transportation easier to access; helps not only to ease traffic congestion, and reduce emissions from cars, but it also saves people’s time, it’s cost-efficient and makes our lives easier.
