How are computers structured and how do they work?

The invention of computers and the internet have revolutionized our lives. They have provided a lot of possibilities for people and made our lives more convenient. Aside from those things, many computer-related jobs have been created, such as computer programming and software engineering. In addition to this, computers have become a large part of the entertainment business and indispensable. Computers are still in development and have endless possibilities.

Components of computer

Motherboard

The motherboard serves to electrically connect computer parts like the keyboard, mouse, speakers, and software chipset. They are attached with a small amount of silver to allow an electric current to pass through the motherboard.

Central Processing Unit (CPU)

The CPU is the brain of the computer. All computer software works with 0 and 1. Therefore, it consists of codes, such as Python, JAVA, and C, which are languages that allow computers to understand natural languages, like English. Furthermore, people can use various systems in computers because of programming languages.

Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)

The GPU is the part responsible for computer graphics. Therefore, it is an essential part that deals with photos, videos, and games with good quality. If the GPU is bad, the screen often crashes or freezes.

Random Access Memory (RAM)

RAM is called Volatile Memory and is mainly used for the main memory of a computer, temporary loading of application programs, and temporary storage of data. The higher the amount of RAM and the higher the number, the faster web pages can load and the more files can be opened and processed at the same time (ID Tech, 2019).

How does a computer work?

The operation of a computer basically consists of four stages; Input, Processing, Memory & Storage, and Output.

The first step is Input. The keyboard and mouse are typical input units. They serve as inputs for delivering information to the computer. In addition, voice recognition software is also an input process during video conferencing or calls.

The second step is Processing. Basically, the CPU is responsible for managing and operating a lot of data. The data received through the CPU makes the computer work. The CPU heats up, as it continues to do important and deep work. To prevent this, the fan keeps running to cool the CPU (Woodford. C, 2021).

The third step is Memory & Storage. It is responsible for storing and recording data on the computer. Data that has passed through the CPU is transferred to the memory part for storage. Also, if saved data is recalled, such as when opening files, it is transferred from the memory part to the CPU.

The final step is Output. Computer screens, inkjet printers, and speakers are output units. The received data is provided to many devices after image processing or text processing (Woodford. C, 2021).

Conclusion

The computer and the Internet were such great inventions and innovations. Scientists and engineers work hard to make systems more powerful and convenient for users. Therefore, computers have been continuously developed for better performance and quality. As computers develop, human society will be automated, and many changes will happen due to computers.
