Retooling for CNC Academics

The COVID-19 pandemic has made an abrupt shift in classroom management and teaching methods. The formerly ‘nice-to-have’ digital integration skills have become ‘must-haves.’ The traditional classroom management and instructional design methods were gradually combined with innovative approaches to enhance the learning experience. While in a pandemic, educators had to embrace a new comfort level while dealing with uncertain guidelines. Undoubtedly, the sudden shift to remote learning challenged teachers in facilitating practical yet effective learning sessions in a hybrid classroom. As a result, the teacher’s role of becoming an instructional designer using education technology has emerged and has become vital in today’s academic landscape.

Cloud Nine College (CNC) acknowledges the importance of technology in education. Adapting to the said shift, CNC held a 2-day retooling session for its teachers and administrators before the new intake. On April 20-21, 2022, a training was held, focusing on the basic features of Canvas, such as the creation of assessments, announcements, and rubrics, amongst others. Canvas is a web-based learning management system (LMS) used by many learning institutions worldwide to access and manage online courses. In addition, a reinforcement session on Microsoft Teams (MS Teams) was taken into by the participants to enhance their online video conferencing with the learners. These tools can benefit students by providing them access to a platform to expand their current understanding of topics covered in the classroom. Using their devices at their fingertips, the students can access relevant files and activities online to master challenging concepts on and off campus.

By equipping CNC educators with innovative tools, they can offer a more customized experience that supports every learning style, in and out of the classroom. Hence, improving the interaction between teachers and learners while developing better-educated students.
