An ‘O’ level provides a foundation for further study or employment. They are available in a wide range of subjects covering the whole curriculum. Within the subject areas which are generally available, there is often a choice of several syllabuses. You can take any number of ‘O’ Level subjects, depending on the qualifications that the chosen higher institution asks for.
The Ministry of Education, Singapore and the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) are the joint examining authorities for the Singapore – Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level examination.
This course aims to enable the students to acquire the academic knowledge and skills of the subjects offered, such as English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Principles of Accounts, etc., so that students are prepared to take the General Certificate of Education Ordinary level examination given by Singapore Education and Assessment Board in Collaboration with the Cambridge International Examination in October, and able to pursue their Higher education in Singapore by qualifying for the entry requirements in 5 Polytechnics in Singapore, Junior Colleges, and to any private Institutions in Singapore offering various diploma and degree courses.
