Was Olympics Game Good for Japan?

The History of Olympics

The Olympic Games began in ancient Greece about 3,000 years ago. From the 8th B.C. to the 4th century A.D., the Games were held every four years in Olympia in honor of the god Zeus. The first modern Olympics took place in 1896 in Athens and featured 280 participants from 12 nations, competing in 43 events [1].

In 1964, the first Olympics in Japan was held. The next time it was held in Japan was this year, 2021.

What was the impact of the Olympics on Japan?

The Olympics provided physical education and Olympic education in Japan. Olympic education development also serves to show domestic and State acquiescence to the IOC’s political imperative to be a leading educational protagonist [2].

The development of Olympic education is precipitated by an applicant or host city. For these reasons, the Olympics have provided these good effects for Japan.

What was the effect of COVID-19 on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics?

COVID-19 had two big effects on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

First, Tokyo 2020 was postponed a year. Due to the postponement of the Games, Japan lost 16 billion dollars. Moreover, a lot of athletes could not play as scheduled.

Another, in the TOKYO Games, there were no audiences in stadiums at all. Because of it, Japan could not obtain enough revenue, which is a deviation from the normal case, where the host of the Olympics usually gets a huge revenue. These are the two bad effects for Japan.

My estimation of the next Paris Olympics

The next Olympic Games are PARIS Olympics, which is to be held from July 26 to August 11 of 2024.

The Games will have more audiences in stadiums because 71.90% of the people in Paris have been fully vaccinated [3]. The economic effect on Paris will be bigger than the effect of the Tokyo Games on Japan.

Moreover, it will provide good Olympic education for the world population. Not limited to providing physical education, PARIS Games will care about society and the environment, which will serve as inspirations for the building programs and stadiums [4].

IOC (International Olympic Committee) and government must care about the COVID-19 situation and sustainable development goals or SDGs.
