Implementing MIS for Enhanced Service and Growth

This report discusses the implementation of a Management Information System (MIS) at Manley’s, a family-owned home improvement specialist company. The project aims to improve customer service, manage various aspects of the business, and implement loyalty programs. The project is divided into several phases, including initiation, planning, execution, project monitoring and control, and closing.

Project Methodology:

Manley’s has chosen the Agile software development methodology for the MIS project due to its advantages, such as early and predictable delivery, transparency, and predictable costs and schedule. Agile is suitable for projects with changing requirements and accelerated development schedules.

Feasibility Assessment:

Feasibility studies were conducted to assess the potential success of the project. The areas of feasibility evaluated were technical, economic, legal, operational, and scheduling feasibility. These evaluations helped determine if the proposed system aligns with the organization’s resources, requirements, and constraints.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The project manager is responsible for the overall success of the project and handles tasks such as planning, defining scope, task sequencing, resource planning, and budgeting. The project team is structured with a combination of process-structured and resource pool elements to ensure the necessary skills and expertise are available. Team members are selected based on their specific skills and responsibilities include effectively executing assigned tasks and keeping the project manager informed of progress and issues.

Project Plan:

The project plan for the MIS project at Manley’s includes key steps such as identifying project goals, defining roles and responsibilities, creating a project schedule using a Gantt chart, analyzing project quality and risks, and implementing the project through initiation, planning, execution, project monitoring and control, and closing phases.

Project Phases:

1) Initiation Phase: Officially starting the project, naming, and defining it. Risks are analyzed, and a basic time frame is outlined.

2) Planning Phase: Developing a comprehensive project management plan, individual plans for cost, scope, duration, quality, communication, risk, and resources are created. Project life cycle and administrative areas are designed.

3) Execution Phase: Creating and completing project deliverables according to the established plan. Project metrics are captured through status meetings, updates, and performance reports to monitor progress.

4) Project Monitoring and Control Phase: Concurrently runs with the execution phase and focuses on measuring project performance and addressing potential issues and risks.

5) Closing Phase: Formally closing the project, delivering the final product, releasing resources, recognizing team members, and terminating contractors. System installation and maintenance are also part of this phase.

Project Quality and Risks:

Project quality ensures that the deliverables meet customer requirements, while risk management plans address potential risks and mitigate their impact on the project’s outcome.

In conclusion, the successful implementation of the Management Information System (MIS) at Manley’s is facilitated by the incorporation of various design elements and effective project management strategies. The adoption of the Agile methodology proves to be a prudent decision, as it offers flexibility, transparency, and predictable outcomes, all of which align seamlessly with the company’s objectives of survival, profit maximization, profit satisficing, and sales growth.

The thorough feasibility assessments conducted across technical, economic, legal, operational, and scheduling aspects have provided valuable insights into the project’s viability and compatibility with the organization’s resources and requirements. The roles and responsibilities of team members have been thoughtfully assigned based on their specific skills and expertise, contributing to the seamless progress of project tasks.
