Update on Indoor Mask Mandate at CNC

It has been over three years since the first COVID-19 cases were confirmed globally. In the beginning, some people may have believed that this disease would not last long and would only be temporary. However, the Coronavirus disease spread to all parts of the world, completely changing our way of life. Our lifestyle shifted to a “new normal” where wearing face masks in public places and social distancing has become mandatory.

In March, the indoor masking requirement was lifted in British Columbia (BC) because of the high vaccination rates and low rate of infections (COVID-19 province-wide restrictions, 2022). While the mask mandate has been lifted in Vancouver, people are encouraged to continue wearing face coverings to protect themselves, especially the most vulnerable ones. In stores, most people still wear masks when it is challenging to keep a physical distance between people. Today, Cloud Nine College (CNC) requires students, teachers, and staff to wear masks until June 30, 2022, to make everyone feel comfortable about being on campus.

Regardless of all the restrictions, every individual must be responsible for helping prevent the spread of the virus. In addition, people who may be asymptomatic or at low risk must understand that everyone has a role in creating a safe place for everyone and helping reduce the spread of COVID-19. While the pandemic has had a devastating impact on human life, it has taught us the power of small actions that can cause a significant difference.
