The Philippines ranked the second happiest country in Southeast Asia

According to the 2022 World Happiness Report, the Philippines is the second happiest country in Southeast Asia. The report was published by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network last Friday, March 18, 2022.

In Southeast Asia, Singapore is the happiest country with a 6.480 score, followed by the Philippines with 5.904.

These only demonstrate how positive and resilient the Filipino people are compared to other Asian countries despite the calamities and the hardships they have encountered through this time of the pandemic.

In the report, among other Asian countries included in the list are Thailand (61st), Malaysia (70th), Vietnam (77th), Indonesia (87th), Laos (95th), Cambodia (114th), and Myanmar at (126th) place.

In the overall list composed of 146 countries, Finland remained at the top spot for the fifth consecutive year, followed by Denmark (2nd), Switzerland (3rd), Iceland (4th), Netherlands (5th), Norway (6th), Sweden (7th), Luxembourg (8th), New Zealand (9th), and Austria (10th). On the other hand, the bottom ten countries in the list are Burundi, Yemen, Tanzania, Haiti, Malawi, Lesotho, Botswana, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan.

This World Happiness annual report was started in 2012, marking its 10th anniversary this year. Part of the factors they consider in making this report is the gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, and perceptions of corruption.

They also use social media data to assess emotional expressions before and during COVID-19. According to the report, on average, a huge part of the world is experiencing stress, worries, sadness, and decreased life enjoyment.
