If we watch people walking on the street, we can see a lot of them walking around with earphones. The gradual evolution of Bluetooth earphones is now naturally permeating our daily lives. However, we do not realize that earphones have become a part of our lives. The main reason is that there has been no objection to the devices gradually incorporated into our daily life. Unlike hearing, which is already dominated, our sense of sight has not yet been invited to the world of machines. However, technology is already ready to attack our eyes.
On September 14th, 2021, Xiaomi in China uploaded a video titled ‘Display in front of you’ on its YouTube channel and unveiled a smart glass concept product. Similar to regular glasses, these smart glasses weigh only 51 grams. We can display notifications from our smartphones and make calls in real-time right in front of our eyes, and there is also a camera for taking pictures on the front. A real-time translation of a foreign language was also introduced, and a function to guide directions was also introduced. The product specifications are specific for a concept product, and the IT industry even responded, “Isn’t this a trailer for smart glasses to be released soon?” On September 9th, 2021, less than a week after Facebook and Ray-Ban, a sunglasses brand, launched smart sunglasses’ Ray-Ban Story,’ Xiaomi released a promotional video for its smart glasses.
Smart glasses are emerging as next-generation technology products, following smartphones and smartwatches. Following the launch of the product by Facebook, Xiaomi, Apple, and Samsung are also expected to introduce smart glasses as early as next year. According to market research firm IDC, the global sales of smart glasses, which stood at 200,000 units in 2019, are expected to increase to 41.1 million units in 2024. Smart glasses will gradually penetrate our daily lives. If an innovative product that can change the market at once, such as Apple’s iPhone, comes out, that time can be accelerated.
Technology has already penetrated our senses without us realizing it and is part of many people’s daily lives. In other words, our senses are dominated by some device. This is like a 90s movie showing the smartwatch as a technology of the future, but Apple’s ‘Apple Watch’ has already surpassed the traditional watch market. In addition, many people spend their daily lives using the many convenient functions of smartwatches.
If a technology that can dominate our vision, called smart glasses, is introduced here, we will quickly adapt to it and use its functions to live. However, it is a time when users are quick to revise laws and regulations in line with new technologies and make advanced use of those technologies. People say that new technology will change our lives tremendously, but it is up to the user to make it good with all technologies so far.
