Concordia International University and Korea Polytechnic University Collaborating Together in Offering Green AC LED Program

Concordia International University (USA and Philippines location) and Korea Polytechnic University (KPU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) last October 30, 2015. The two educational institutions will work together in offering Green AC LED Program globally. The MOU was endorsed by Dr. Charles Mercieca, President of Concordia International University and signed by Dr. Jon Young Lee, Honorary President of Concordia International College of Asia and the Pacific, and Prof. Hyun Dong-hoon, Chief of AC LED Department of Korea Polytechnic University.

KPU has been selected as a university for government support for fostering energy specialists and designated an institution to foster specialists in LED fusion technology by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. For three consecutive years, Ministry of Education had chosen KPU as a university for government support for the promoting lifelong study project.

KPU has recently announced “KPU Global Vision 2020” which embodies its determination for the next 10 years of development. On the basis of the master plan, KPU prepares to take off toward a worldwide industrial-technical university armed with global competitiveness harnessed by innovation on education, research, academic-industrial cooperation, international exchanges and improvement of educational environment.

KPU also plans to construct a 330,000 m3-scaled 2nd campus in Sihwa MTV. The second campus, according to “KPU Global Vision 2020”, will be upgraded to the most advanced Techno Complex conceptualized as ‘educational-industrial fusion’ which will be composed of education and R&D facilities such as the 2nd technical innovative park; research and production complex; the center of educational industrial fusion; and research institutes adjunct to Family Companies as well as manufacturing facilities.

The Green AC LED Program of Concordia and KPU are designed to equip students of Concordia International University in the Philippines and its other locations on the next generation of AC solutions for LED light bulbs and street lights. This program is not only applying the technological advancements but also maintaining a green environment. It teaches students on using eco-friendly technology.

An AC LED light engines can be connected directly from the normal power supply and work on voltages.  One of the competitive advantages of AC LED from DC LED is its resonance maximum efficiency.  The remaining lamp would still operate effectively even one lamp were removed or failed. AC-LED light engines provide a very promising and fascinating platform.

Concordia as it expands in the Asia and the Pacific is geared toward providing excellent education and honing the knowledge and skills students of their students. The Green AC LED Program is just one of the technological programs that Concordia will offer. As technology arises, more similar programs will be offered in the future.
